Chapter 3, page 8 - My Xylia...

I wanna make Ambrosia tell me stories!

Claude`s expression in that second panel there is really interesting. Like he`s seeing someone he never thought he`d see again. Like a very old friend. And in a way that`s probably a truth. But what I really like is the way he looks at the book in the third panel and how he runs his fingers over the drawing in the last panel.

It`s a bit of veneration in there. I look forward to the rest! Thanks for the update Barbington!

Awwww.

No really coherent or deep comment for today, since my mind's too worn out to come up with anything particularly meaningful, aside from that Livy peering over at the book there is adorable.

Hmm -- what does Barb mean by "To be continued"? Is it just because the chapter is ending, or are we not going to be seeing Charlie for a while because we'll be following another part of the story?

Thank you Ceri, Luri, and Stel, for commenting! This latest chapter didn't seem to hold a lot of appeal for a lot of readers at least enough to make people want to talk about it. I'm hoping the next chapter is more enjoyable for everyone. One thing I worried about is that a lot of the pages look the same. But overall, this chapter has a rushed feeling since it was added at the last minute, and I think that people sense that and didn't like it overall.

The second panel is supposed to harken back to the Prologue. In the last panel, I added Claude's right hand at the last minute. After the whole page was done and lettered, I realized that I wanted it there to convey that he really, truly remembers her. Finally. ^_^

Luri- Corgis can't help but look adorable. It's their programming. LOL

Stel- I have always put 'to be continued' at the end of chapters just to let folks know that the chapter has ended. Sorry for the confusion. ^_^

Thank you for your comments!

Barb, I think it might have been one of those cases where it was after the fact that readers (okay, well, me) went, "D'uh! Claudius is dreaming about his past lives and deaths." I tend to be slow at times ;o) Because looking back, it was a pivotal chapter. It must have been a hard chapter to draw because you didn't have the whole color palate to covey changes in time or perspective.

One question...when Claudius/Nigel went down with the Lusitania, his book and watch went with him. That was the same book and watch Dr. Ambrosia gave to Charlie way back in the beginning when he was a boy. Who/how were these things retrieved from the ocean? Or is this another Barb Being Coy Secret? ;o)

Questions, questions, questions.....

What watch? Huh?

Bottom left-hand corner on the page where Claudius wakes up (6.18.08). Isn't that a watch sinking right below the book?

Why yes, it is.

Fancy that.

PS you know I'm just playing with you, right? ^_^

I LOVE the right hand in the last panel. I think it's the highlight of the page, really - such a simple touch. The readers can't even see his face, but the fact that he's moving his fingers over the image relates such emotion. I approve of you adding it, haha. :)

I did really like this chapter. I think it was more that we're still figuring out what's going on, and digesting the fact that he was in all these different times. Also, there is a lot that is unknown about those lives, so in some ways it's hard to comment about. But that's not a negative thing at all. I also still love the sepia art for the flashbacks, it was gorgeous. ^^ Excited for the next one!

Personally, I have another theory of why people haven't been talking about it.
You're too good. After a while, one starts feeling silly about always jabbering about how great the page looks, how adorable Livy is, how cool Ambrosia is, how you love the sepia style, how great the house is, and so on. Refraining from commenting is just self defense...
Looking back, I think this is probably my favourite chapter. It anwers some old questions and gives you brand new ones at the same time, and it feels like you're really finding your voice. Reading it, you know there's going to be awesome things happening, but at the same time you have no idea where the story is heading. I can guess what happends next (Claudius will finally meet his family, and maybe we'll learn about his realtion to Ambrosia), but after that? Claudius will have to go find Xylia, obviously, but how, where, and when? And what about those nasty fairies, when will they be around again?
I love speculating...

Funny, last night I was thinking the same thing...the term "sycophant" came to mind. So, in case I come off as fawning, I will only make "wow" comments on the 3rd Tuesday of every other month, with the exception of leap year, where I will do so on the 2nd Saturday of each month, before 3:30 pm, but not after 9:45 pm.

;oP
