Sorry for a depressing post.

I found out yesterday that I was being made redundant. I've got to work my notice period then I'm on my own.

Yesterday I was in a bit of a daze. Today I've been just getting on with all the normal stuff (work, shopping, etc). I'm going to concentrate on job hunting this weekend.

I can't sleep and I'm not sure why.

On the good news side somebody is coming to repair my boiler on Monday. I'm feeling lazy so here's most of the story:

I'll add to that that my boiler died again in March and I bought myself a fan heater in the middle of April.

Thank you for your wishes.

Sorry, I should have been clearer about the boiler. I own my flat but couldn't fix it earlier because I didn't have the money. I've now arranged the financing.

The plumber came out, looked at it and confirmed that it needed replacing (in December a British Gas engineer looked at it but I took his recommendation with a pinch of salt because British Gas have been on Watchdog[1] in part because their engineers get commission for every new boiler they recommend). I'm now in the process of getting quotes for replacing the boiler.

I've taken a half day holiday today to get on with job applications. I'll eat after posting here then get on with applying.

Man that sucks, hope it goes well with the jobhunt.
And I hate landlords like that, that say thet they will fix whatever that is broken but never do until you don't really need the thing that is broken anymore. Thankfully the landlords where I live are rather quick at fixing things even if they don't always do a great job with it, at least it gets half done.

Thank you both for your thoughts and wishes.

I'm going to do more applications tomorrow.

Part 2 - I'm still learning my way around the forum. So I used the Quick Add feature, which puts the song over on my page instead of here in the reply. However, it is on the site, so I've gotten that far in the learning-how process.
It's my own song - I wrote it. I wish I could play an instrument, but I lack the dexterity, so it's me singing a cappella.
The song is called Valiant, and I am dedicating it to you, to Barb, and to all other Xyliacs facing challenges in these
uncertain times.

May everyone who needs it take it to heart. All the Best, Peg

Sometimes it's hard to get the mind to turn off enough for sleep to happen. I've been going through that myself lately.
No fun, insomnia. So I sympathize completely! Sometimes I eat a sandwich and hope that blood to the stomach
for digestion will allow the brain to go offline. And many times, that does work. Other times I try slow, deep breathing.

Just know that your wellbeing matters to us here, and you have our prayers and good wishes to go with you on your search for your new job.

All the Best, Peg

Francisco! I'm so sorry to hear that this has happened- a very common occurrence in the world right now, but I know that is of no comfort to you now. I'm sure you've heard the old 'one door closes another opens' allegory to pieces, but that's only because there is truth to it- just not easy to see right after that one door slams in your face, especially in an unexpected way.

I know that 'daze' feeling. You describe it really well- something about grocery shopping always seemed to unleash a panic in my solar plexus that could knock me to the ground. I'm told that the real trick to moving on and up from things like this(which I have NOT mastered) is to see yourself not lacking for work or money, but to project that successful image of your future self into your present mind, as though you are already living there. Not the past image of the job you lost, but the dream job that you WILL get the opportunity of having. This is not easy for me to do, at least not yet, but it's the 'see the ball be the ball' analogy that makes for successful athletes, transferred to any kind of success. (and it's kind of an element of Xyliatales, too...)

I wish you luck, my friend! Please let us know how you are doing!

Hugs,

~B
