After Allan's hard-hitting statements regarding gaming, I realized how important a "good" game is to my life. A good game is like a good book, something that can take you away from the stress of reality. So, along that vein, I will share a few of my favorite games with you, why I like them and my own personal rating - Stiff Necks. Note: One Stiff Neck is comparable to one thumb up. I chose a "Stiff Neck" due to the pull of a game to keep me hunched over the computer and thus end up with a stiff neck.

The MYST Franchise by Cyan Worlds: Five Stiff Necks!!!

MYST: You find a book that leads you to the secret isle of MYST and leads you on an quest rife with greed, intrigue, and plots for familial murder.
Graphics: Despite the fact that the original MYST graphics are now long out of date, they were the best of the times when they came out. The original MYST has been redone into something called Real MYST - the main distinction being the original's point-and-click directional interface has been replaced with one that will let you go wherever you like instead of having to follow the paths. This does create more of a 3-D environment that the original, but the effect does not interfere with game involvement.
Why I Like it:
I am a stickler for a good story. Good graphics and a marketing team do not a game make. MYST's story is gripping and personally involving. In a single game, Cyan Worlds created legions of dedicated fans who have followed them through eight games and have never been disappointed. If you like a game that draws you in, go with MYST. You can't go wrong.

Zoo Tycoon 2 by Microsoft: Four Stiff Necks!
ZT2: One of those quick "Lemonade Tycoon" ripoffs that Microsoft ripped out right after it got the rights to it. You are the owner/operator of various zoos;. You can aim for fame or you can play several campaigns designed to test your skill at people pleasing, rescuing animals and zoos, and zoology.
Graphics: Set on high, the graphics are great. However, due to a memory leak, it is often best to run graphics on a lower than optimum setting.
Why I like it: Everyone likes to "rule the world", however they go about doing so. I liked the ability to interact with endangered species and create exhibits for them. Definitely worth it!

That is a start! I will post more as they occur to me. Happy Gaming!!!

When I have some time to play games, I love strategy games or wargames or city-builders. Especially "antiquity-like" ones. :-D
Caesar IV is one of my favorites. Good graphics for a city-builder ! And it's interesting, you have to look after many things to make sure your city grows up ! Love this one.

Civilization is quite cool too.

For me at the moment it's Sims 3 that have me hunched over of the computor (as you mentioned everyone wants to rule the world and sims is my way of playing GOD) and Tekken 5 that have sitting to close to the tv which if I gonna belive my parents will give me square eyes (I am still waiting for it to happen since my parents first said it when I was a kid and spent to much time infront of the tv watching my favorite shows). O_o

Neat - a character in a game that breaks the "fourth wall" of the game! I think a few druid characters in Balder's Gate do that as well.

Can pretty much any Final Fantasy to this list, lol. I've been hooked on Dissidia, and the game keeps track of how many consecutive days you play - I'm up to around 35 - and a character in the game itself has told me I play too much and that it will reward me if I take a day off, lol.
