Xylia. I did good : > xDDD
Anyway, yes --- I came back last Tuesday night from 6 weeks of studying Intensive Russian in St. Petersburg at the Nevsky Institute of Language and Culture.

Here's the thing: My little brother got a sudden and quite intense interest in classical music just this week. One of the problems here is that allthough we have both heard quite a lot of classical music (like anyone who watches TV and movies), but remembering titles and names is a different kettle of fish... He downloaded a couple of collections called "Top 100 classical pieces" and things like that, wich was good, but they all seem to contain the same stuff. So where do you go next? Well, I fi…

... and in this case, we're not talking about corgis.
I'm just over 5 weeks pregnant and due sometime in mid-February. We should find out whether it's a boy or girl (or both, as that's a possibility on my side of the family) sometime in the last quarter of the year. And we already have names chosen. This will be our first child. =)

Friday night I had a dream. I was somewhere in India or Asia at a religious festival. This festival drew people from every race and every walk of life. I was wondering through a market place of some sort. The road was lined with tiny stalls and adherents of all types were making offerings of roasted fish; heads, fins and all, to whatever was inside them. I stood on tiptoe to see over the heads of the people crowding around the nearest shrine only to see ....... a Marylin Monroe bobble head doll!…

Today, I started moving away from that nasty place I had tumbled into a week ago. A lot of very kind people helped me through this time, and I really feel honored to have so many that will stick by me even when I am spewing such negative force fields of muck. ^_^ Molly insisted on giving me money to buy 'stuff'. She wouldnt take it back. Joseph sent MEGA prayers for me and my community, and my daddy gave me beer. Ahem. My ex husband's sister gave me a birthday card which meant a whole lot to me.…

I, like so many other young women, am trying to diet. However, unlike most of the young women I know who are dieting, I actually need it. I am the type my sister calls "plushy" or as my dad would say "not the type you have to shake the sheets to find." (Yeah, kind of insensitive, but what can you do? They're family.) I have a body that an artist might (if they were being kind) call "pear shaped." Doctors call it "Morbidly Obese." ( They make it sound like I am dying or something. Yeesh! I can se…

What I've been doing for three days: Packing things in a trailer, unloading them, and cleaning out the old apartment.
What I'll be doing for the next few days: London, baby!
We're finally moving out of the old apartment properly, so we've been carrying and cleaning all weekend! Actually, we're switching with our neighbors, but my brother will be staying in the apartment this fall, and we'll live in the house. But it'll be so good to have all my stuff!

Cedar Rapids flood video
I need to blog for a minute because Im starting to get a little overwhelmed.
My hometown is completely devastated with a flood. Two friends just emailed- one lost her house, one lost his shop. No flood insurance. No one dreamed this would happen. It was a 500 year flood plain. "Not in OUR lifetime...a different 500th year."

Last night I was smacked with that weariness that suddenly comes on - that tiredness that feels like it was injected and you can't override it. I tried really hard to work through it anyway, but in the end I just kept falling asleep everywhere I sat or stood.
It was that post-stress tired thing. As I mentioned in another post, it was a rough week for me in terms of facing confrontations: legal issues, landlord meetings, mosh pit violence, shocking news, and two kids who are home all the time, h…

My mother died two years ago this March. For most of my life she suffered from over twenty-five different diseases. (I say over twenty-five because we stopped counting after that.) Fibromayalgia, chronic headaches, diabetes, sleep apnea, asthma, and diabetic neuropathy to name the few that I remember. While I lived at home, my life revolved around my mom. I don't usually blog here, but this is copypasta from my Blogger account I thought I'd share...
According to my daughter's year-end report card, she received an "F" in Art. Shocked and dismayed, I went to the school's on-line site and determined that she had turned in every assignment, so it wasn't a matter of blowing off the class.
Mind you, this is an art class, not an "Art History 101" class. Art. Plain and simple. You do the assignment to the best of your ability, you pass. You hand in a b…

Charlie hung in the breathlessness of no-space and tried to connect the shreds of sanity. Where was he? He knew with dread certainty that his choice was fraught with implications beyond his ability to understand. His mind reeled trying to make sense of the image of his body lying in the snow, the voice that spoke with such commanding finality, the dim memories of his life, his lives. How many times had he died? But it had always been okay. He could always come back and muddle through again. Deni…

Hey Xyliacs.
The last week has been emotionally very draining for me. I had a few things in my personal life that were challenging, but then from out in left field, my refuge from reality, Xylia, brought me some pain too.
I know I need to develop a tougher skin. I know this. I know I need to learn to accept myself. As more people read XYila, and more become aware of it, more people are going to want to be critical. Critical of the story, the art, and the site. I'm aware of that, But over the l…

Firefly's one of those series that'll probably end up like Star Trek, a series originally cancelled, but will be expanded on later on. Anyway, if you're a fan of the show, I found something you might like.
Found a novel that was originally commissioned to be part of a canon set of novels, but was scrapped. The book IS finished and up for download for FREE!

But based on someone's comment, I'd guess others can see that image. Any other comments or feedback, other than suggestions to get a Mac :-)

Well, Microsoft rolled out Windows XP Service Pack 3 on the 29th of last month officially. They're also no longer going to be issuing new licenses for Windows XP, which means they'll probably going to stop supporting it as well. This, in my mind, is a fairly bad move on Microsoft's part, as Windows Vista has many problems, including the steep hardware requirements, compatibility issues, and most newer MS products are Vista exclusive. Well, Vista exclusive for now anyway. Word on the cyber street…

In 1970, the Beatles broke up.…
